In Utley, @ 1Jn 5.2, there is a list after the sentence : " Notice the evidences of a true believer."
The last item is "5. overcomes ()"
Utley's online commentary shows this :
"overcomes (1 John 5:4-5; 2:13,14; 4:4; John 16:33)"

typo : Utley commentary @ 1Jn 5.2
Re: typo : Utley commentary @ 1Jn 5.2
There is a difference. The Module has "overcomes (5:4-5)", while the online commentary has additional verse references.kenfhill84083 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2026 9:52 amIn Utley, @ 1Jn 5.2, there is a list after the sentence : " Notice the evidences of a true believer."

I am a little uncertain whether I should fix this. I compared the Bible Analyzer module "You Can Understand the Bible" (copyright 2013-2014) and the online web site for the same commentary, which has a copyright date of 2016. Look at the copyright date for https://www.freebiblecommentary.org/new ... urvey.html
If the rest of the content were the same, I would update the missing verses right away. But if you compare the (older) BA module text with the (newer) online text, you will see a number of differences between the two editions of 1 John 5:2-3.
1. Module refers to 1Jn 5:1, online refers to 1Jn 5:1,4.
2. Module has Rom 10:9-13, online adds "(cf Joel 2:32)".
3. Module has lower case terms, online has SMALL CAPS for parts of speech.
4. Online refers to "Special Topic: YHWH's Eternal Plan" and MANY other topics. The module doesn't refer to them.
5. Module has "full deity (cf. 1Jn 5:5)" while the online more correctly says "fully incarnate Deity (cf. John 1:14; Gal. 4:4; 1 Tim. 3:16; Heb. 2:14; 1 John 4:2; 5:5; 2 John v. 7)." This was a good change: the point of asking if Jesus "has come in the flesh" is the focus on the incarnation, not to simply focus on the deity of Christ.
6. Online adds a new sentence ("Believers in Jesus are the adopted sons of God") after the paragraph for "is born of God."
7. Module says "The new covenant does have responsibilities"; online has "The New Covenant does have requirements". The differences are even more profound when you look at the rest of the sentence.
I decided to stop looking at this stage. There are MANY discrepancies between the 2014 edition and the 2016 edition of the same commentary.
It would be better to ask Tim if he can contact the publisher for an newer, updated electronic version of this commentary.
