5.05 and 5.2 hang in Ubuntu 16.10

Post by Paul Weaver »

I'm trying to get a good Bible program working on Linux as I'm growing weary of Microsoft breaking things every time it updates Windows 10. I did have BibleAnalyzer 5.0.5 running, but it only worked for about an hour then it froze. I had to force quit the program. Every time I started it since it freezes within seconds and I have to force quit. I removed the program and tried installing Bible Analyzer 5.2 and every time I try to run it freezes within seconds and I have to force quit. Anybody know what is going on with it?

I use BA on Linux Mint 18.3 every day and it plays beautifully! You might want to make sure you are installing the latest Linux beta (it is rock solid!) and see if that fixes your issue. Tim will be finalizing the release of this Linux beta soon.

I did however just download the windows setup of BibleAnalyzer 5.2 and installed it through Crossover and so far everything seems to be working fine except the speech part, but that's okay by me. However, I really would like to get this running under native Linux.

I'm thinking that it may have something to do with my flavor of Linux as it freezes no matter what I try. Is it possible that when I remove the installation that something residual is being left behind that caused the freezing and continues to cause it?

If v5.2 is freezing on start, it may be a corrupt file it is trying to load. Try running Bible Analyzer from terminal. Open Terminal and type bibleanalyzer

I just tried it and I get a syntax error. Let's see if I can type all this in correctly!

/opt/bibleanalyzer/ba-run.py: line 2: syntax error near unexpected token '0,'
/opt/bibleanalyzer/ba-run.py: line 2: 'sys.path.insert(0, '/opt/bibleanalyzer/ba-521.zip')'

Then it tells me to close the terminal.

Try it as root,
sudo bibleanalyzer

Just to update ...
I installed Linux Mint 18.3 and then installed the BibleAnalyzer 5.2 beta and thus far it seems to be working. :P

Just curious - what version of Linus was you running? I have used BA 5.2 on numerous versions and have never had it freeze. But that may be just me!
