A Standard Reference For More Than a Century

Lange's Commentary on the Holy Scriptures was the standard commentary for nearly a century. The original work was edited by Peter Lange in Germany (1864-1880). Phillip Schaff supervised the English translation and contributed substantially to the American edition.

Dr. Lange used a unique "three-pronged" to each passage. he would examine the passage with exegetical and critical comments, then go over it again with doctrinal and ethical interpretation, followed by homiletical and practical suggestions for application. Thus nearly each section will be divided as such.
For this reason Lange's commentary cannot be neatly divided into verses as the typical digital Bible commentary. Instead it must remain in sections or chapters to retain the flow and context of the comments. Sometimes each section or entries can be quite lengthy.

Comments on the Commentary
“The volumes greatly differ in excellence, yet none could be spared. We have nothing equal to them as a series.” — C. H. Spurgeon
Another opinion
“It promises to be a complete and useful Commentary and will prove especially valuable to ministers. It contains critical annotations of the text and its translation, and a threefold commentary, exegetical, doctrinal, and homiletical. Under these three heads the text is viewed under every aspect. It forms almost an exegetical library by itself.” — The New Englander, Volume 23, 1864, p. 543.
The Bible Analyzer Edition

The Bible Analyzer edition of Lange's Commentary is a digital representation of the American Translation of the original printed German edition. Plus it contains linked footnotes, live verse references, instant searching, and more. It is not a verse based  commentary because of the reasons mentioned above, but is section or chapter based.

We have placed the nearly 14,000 pages of text in a single Bible Analyzer Module (nearly 100MB) including all Greek/Hebrew text.
