bibleanalyzer_5.5-1 on Debian

Post by Hendrik »

Hello. I am new to the forum so I apologize if I forget a rule or principle.

I am attempting to install Bible Analyzer on my Debian based Distribution on my 64bit (Intel I-core) Desktop PC.

I downloaded bibleanalyzer_5.5-1_all.deb.

"$ cat /etc/*-release" produces:

Code: Select all

PRETTY_NAME="MX 23.2 Libretto"
DISTRIB_ID=MX
DISTRIB_RELEASE=23.2
DISTRIB_CODENAME="Libretto"
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="MX 23.2 Libretto"
PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="12"
VERSION="12 (bookworm)"
VERSION_CODENAME=bookworm
ID=debian
HOME_URL="https://www.debian.org/"
SUPPORT_URL="https://www.debian.org/support"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.debian.org/"

Trying to install the .deb file produces this result:

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'bibleanalyzer' instead of '/home/ped/Desktop/bibleanalyzer_5.5-1_all.deb'
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 bibleanalyzer : Depends: python3 (< 3.11) but 3.11.2-1+b1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Press any key to close
I will be glad to know if there is a solution. I am not a programming engineer, so I might do something wrong on the first try.

The issue is Bible Analyzer need Python 3.10 while your distro only has 3.11 available.

I plan on updating Bible Analyzer 5.6 to Linux once the next Ubuntu LTR comes out (4/24). I am looking to make it possible for Bible Analyzer to run with Python versions 3.10-3.12 which will make it compatible with other Debian based distros as well.
