I recently purchased Vines Expository Dictionary . I was looking at the word 'cross' in 1Cor 1:17 and noticed it displayed the word ..

diaperao, G1276
"to pass over, to cross over" etc.

When other programs show..

g4716. σταυρός stauros ; from the same as 2476; an upright stake, hence a cross (the Rom. instrument of crucifixion):--

Thanks,
Richard

I'm afraid the Vines is totally bugged and I'm afraid to look much further.

Now for 'wise' in 1Cor 1:19 I get ..
Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, Vine - wise

ou me, G3364
a double negative, expressing an emphatic negation, "by no means," is rendered "in no wise" in Matt 10:42; Luke 18:17; John 6:37; Acts 13:41; Rev 21:27.
pantos, G3843
"altogether, by all means," is used with the negative ou ("not") in Rom 3:9, stating a complete denial, rendered "No, in no wise." See ALL, B, 3, ALTOGETHER, B, 1.
panteles, G3838
the neuter of panteles, is used with the negative me, and with eis to, "unto the," in Luke 13:11, and translated "in no wise," lit., "not to the uttermost:" UTTERMOST, No. 1.
...not even close.

But when I use Vines in Olivetree for 'wise' in 1Cor 1:19 I get..
1. sophos (σοφός, 4680) is used of (a) God, Rom. 16:27; in 1 Tim. 1:17 and Jude 25sophos is absent, in the best mss. (see the rv), the comparative degree, sophoteros, occurs in 1 Cor. 1:25, where “foolishness” is simply in the human estimate; (b) spiritual teachers in Israel, Matt. 23:34; (c) believers endowed with spiritual and practical wisdom, Rom. 16:19; 1 Cor. 3:10; 6:5; Eph. 5:15; Jas. 3:13; (d) Jewish teachers in the time of Christ, Matt. 11:25; Luke 10:21; (e) the naturally learned, Rom. 1:14, 22; 1 Cor. 1:19, 20, 26, 27; 3:15-20.

Vine's sometimes has multiple entries for a word. The two instances you mention are demonstrate that. As for "cross," there is also an entry called "cross, crucify" which has the entry you seek. The same for "wise." Here is an image,

Vine's is a dictionary and thus topic or word based, but verses found in an entry can be found using the Reference Indexing utility. If you select and view the dictionaries with the word, you will see it is found not under "cross," but "cross, crucify" in Vines,
