Features
The Bible Analyzer 3.8 beta is ready for testing. Here are some of the new/changed features.

Book/Article Viewer
Books/Articles are now in SQLite format like the other modules. There is a tool under the "Tools" menu that will attempt to convert the previous .htm text files to the new .bk format. It will not delete the old .htm files. Some of the single chapter books will not convert properly, so here they are in the new format. Just unzip and place them in the Module/Texts folder, http://www.bibleanalyzer.com/beta/single.zip

A new Book/Article Display tab next to ScripturePad. Books will display under this tab unless the "Separate Window" option is selected in Preferences. If selected, Books will display in a stand-alone window. Book/Article titles are found and selected under a new tab in the Master Control Panel. There is also a new Back button that will bring the previous page back after an image link is clicked (Dispensational Truth).

Books/Articles can now be searched like Commentaries and Dictionaries under the Library Search tab in MCP.

Text to Speech
A new Text-to-Speech feature which will speak a whole page or selected text. There is a new toolbar icon that acts as a toggle to speak/stop speaking as well as a new speech options tab in Preferences. The Reader will speak the page that has the current focus; the one that has the thin, black border. Custom text can be entered and spoken at startup.

It is recommended that better voices be installed if possible. The default Microsoft voices are "robotic" sounding. Here is a British female voice we have found that is freely available, http://rapidshare.com/files/108336122/R ... .exe.html. It is around 20MB but the voice quality is very good. If any one knows of any other good voices, please let us know.

Audio/Hymn Player
There is a new Audio/Hymn player that will play .mid, .mp3, and .wav files. It is found under the new Audio panel. This panel also now contains the two quiz games from version 3.7. Included are several midi hymns. Multiple titles can be selected to make a playlist. Place any custom .mid, .mp3 files in the new Modules/Audio folder and Bible Analyzer will find them on next start. Here are a dozen or so midi files to try, http://www.bibleanalyzer.com/beta/hymn.zip

Related Verse Search
A new Related Verse Search in MCP and on context menu right-click. This search method will display a list of the words of the selected verse allowing the user to select the words to seach for. It is essentially an "Every Word" search, but the user can select the words of a particular verse instead of typing them.

When search results are displayed, the book names before the colored bars are now hyperlinks. Clicking the book will cause the display to scroll/jump to the first result of that book.

Other Changes
There has been an internal change in BA concerning unicode text. Before the Greek/Hebrew texts used the XML unicode, now BA uses utf-8 unicode. This will affect those who make custom modules. Here is a link to the TRi Greek text with the new utf-8 encoding required for 3.8, http://www.bibleanalyzer.com/beta/tri.zip

The texts with Strong's numbers also have a small change. There is now a H or G before the number. This had to be done for seaching reasons. Here is a link to the new AV with Strong's 3.8 requires, http://www.bibleanalyzer.com/beta/av1769s.zip

Searching in foriegn language texts and texts with Strong's numbers has been improved. A few minor bugs have been fixed.

Installation

For easier use and testing, this beta is configured in the portable format. That is all the modules and user files are under the installation folder. To use this beta follow these steps:
  • Make a copy of your current installation folder (C:/Program Files/Bible Analyzer 3.7 is default for 3.7) and rename it whatever you want.

Then unzip and place the 3.8 beta and User Manual in the same folder, overwriting the files.

Find your modules folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bible Analyzer\Modules\ for XP, C:\ProgramData\Bible Analyzer\Modules\ Vista) and place a copy of it under the new folder you made above.

Make a new folder under the Modules folder called Audio

Run the bibleanalyzer3.exe file to open Bible Analyzer.
Here is an image of the folder structure.

Tim,

I downloaded 3.8 but for some reason my PC would not open the files and let them run from Win Zip.

Am I doing something wrong or is it the PC?

No problems here on Vista.
Just extracted the files and put them in the directory structure as Tim showed.

Here is version 002 of the 3.8 beta of Bible Analyzer,
http://www.BibleAnalyzer.com/beta/BA38-beta02.zip

The file also contains the quotes.txt in case some don't have it. Just place both in the application folder as described in the first post.

Also, here is an updated AV-1769 text that has a few corrections to some red-letter words (thanks to John S. Martin for finding them),
http://www.BibleAnalyzer.com/beta/av1769.zip

Here is the .chm User Manual by itself,
http://www.BibleAnalyzer.com/beta/help.zip

And here is the manual in PDF as some requested,
http://www.BibleAnalyzer.com/beta/3.8%20manual.pdf

The changes made to this beta,
  • The config.ini and notes.usr files are now in the application folder (there were supposed to be before but I uploaded the wrong beta file, duh)

If the config.ini file becomes corrupted a dialog will popup notifying that it will be deleted and a new default one created.

Under the Tools menu is a utility to convert the old .htm format texts to the new .bk format 3.8 uses. Let me know how it works.

The book, chapter, and verse buttons on the Bible panel will work as expected. They will now jump across books and chapters.

And a few other little things.

I purchased the CD-Rom of 3.7 and installed it and it all worked great. I downloaded 3.8.1 update and it works except the image charts for Larkin's books don't display. Do I need the charts copied from the CD-ROM?

Thanks

Larry

If you can view the images in 3.7 but not 3.8, the problem is caused by a path issue that was in the initial 3.8.1 release. Here is the link to the executable setup that should fix the issue (3.8.1b),

Thanks that did it, although I've been a 'quickverse user' for many years you are winning me over. I've been a bible teacher for almost 30 years and I lean heavilly on Larkin and Scofield, any chance you will incorporate Scofields latest study notes?

Thanks Again

Glad it is working for you.

I believe the notes of the new Scofield Bible are copyrighted and not available for distribution. Unfortunately there are many works that may be of value but their copyright holders will not release them.
